Ross Park Mall Kiosk Grows Into STORE

Pittsburgh has long felt like a backwater town in Tesla's world.  My purchase was credited to Philadelphia.  It was delivered off a truck from Columbus.  It was serviced (until recently) by folks from or at Cleveland-- and now a Ranger commuting from Maryland!  Sure, Tesla surrounded us with Superchargers in Somerset and Cranberry (which Jake and I christened), but we were always a bridesmaid as Tesla took other cities into their honeymoon suite.
Then about a year ago, I caught a "help wanted" ad for Pittsburgh Tesla sales reps.  Soon thereafter, the company timidly consummated their spring fling by opening up a kiosk in Ross Park Mall.  Thankfully, they're not stopping there... Here I present to you: A STORE.

UPDATE: This location opened on June 23, 2016. Click for details.
In the last week the project to bring a full-sized mall store to Pittsburgh began.  The site is superb.  Granted, this could be just as much happenstance as patience, but if Tesla was being patient it sure paid off.  Wrapping around the corner gives them two-- count 'em, TWO-- storefronts, both surrounded by the gold-standard high-end names that Simon Property Group has been luring since 2004.  This picture?  Taken in front of Tiffany's.
The location is close to the middle of the mall and very visible to people on both levels and multiple corridors.  The current kiosk is located by the escalator outside Nordstrom, so they're really not moving very far-- no excuse for showing up late to work yinz guys! <shrug>

Since the store cuts through the corner, it's actually significantly larger inside than you would expect.  I don't know the square footage, but it will have room for two vehicles (or a car plus the usual demo chassis), merchandise and some office space for configuring/ordering in private.
Lurking at the far end of the hall from Nordstrom is that French department store JCPenney (pronounced Jah-Say Pen-nay) that caters to middle class folk like me.  Hopefully they stay there, given the financial difficulties JCP has, but given the foot traffic in Ross Park I think we can safely assume that it won't be the first location on any closure list.  Immediately across the way from the new Tesla store on this hallway are stores for Armani and Michael Kors.
The other entrance favors the Nordstrom crowd and dwarfs the cute little Omega watch store that sits on the protruding nub of storefronts.  If you're shopping in Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Kate Spade or Victoria's Secret you'll look out to the eye catching Tesla Red beckoning you to come on over like an electro-magnet.  Too bad your fancy purse will no longer have an empty center console area to drop into... but I digress.
Simon very quickly updated their website to announce the coming of Tesla.  The former Brighton Collectibles location needs extensive reworking to meet the clean Tesla look-- no doubt a complete gutting of the space.  Demolition is on-going and most likely the targeted opening date on the Ross Park Mall website will be pushed back from May 24th until sometime in June.  Just a hunch.
In the meantime, the gang is all still there ready to show off the latest and greatest Tesla has to offer.  You can just make them out there in the distance of this picture, which also shows the relative proximity the new store has to the old kiosk.  Incidentally, that gorgeous bright red Model S is, indeed, the new "refreshed" grill-less version of the S.

TEST DRIVES/SALES at Ross Park Mall:
With a sigh of relief, it's finally starting to feel like Tesla likes us... they really like us!  We have this cool new store on the way and also-- well, I'm going to have to stop myself there.  There is more to come but that's a topic that'll have to wait another month or so.   How's that for a tease?
